I found this old-fashioned recipe in Good Old Days magazine awhile back and thought it sounded like great comfort food. A quick dessert when you're short on time. 10-30-15

Ingredients For blackberry slump

  • 3 c
    blackberries
  • 1-1/4 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    grated lemon zest
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • DUMPLINGS:
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    milk

How To Make blackberry slump

    In a large saucepan with a lid, combine blackberries, water, lemon zest, lemon juice and sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.

    Meanwhile, blend flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl. Using your hands or a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add milk and mix until ingredients are just moistened. Do not overmix.

    Drop 6 equal spoonfuls of dough into simmering berry sauce. Cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes or until dumplings are done. DO NOT lift the lid.

    Spoon dumplings and sauce into serving bowls and serve hot.
