apple crisp w/ cranberries, maple and caramel

This is a variation of an old New England apple crisp recipe from an aunt who used to make this when she was a little girl. She got the recipe from her mom, so it's pretty old, lol. It evokes all the flavors and scents of Fall.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed, light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks cold butter
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 3/4 cup apple cider
  • 9 - granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
  • 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 small jar, caramel sauce

How To Make apple crisp w/ cranberries, maple and caramel

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350. In medium bowl, mix 1-1/2 cups flour, sugar, brown sugar and salt. Dice the butter and put in food processor, along w/ flour mix. Pulse until crumbly.
  • Step 2
    In small bowl, mix oats and walnuts. Add into processor and pulse a couple times. Place dried cranberries in a bowl. Pour apple cider over the cranberries and let soak until plump, about 5 mins. In large bowl, mix apples, cranberries, maple syrup, lemon juice, 2 tbsp flour and cinnamon.
  • Step 3
    Butter or spray a 9" x 13" baking dish. Spoon apple mix into baking dish. Spoon the flour/walnut mix over apples evenly. Bake 45 mins or until apples are tender and top is light brown. Warm the caramel sauce. Scoop some of the apple crisp into a bowl and drizzle w/ warmed caramel sauce.
