My mom made this for us as kids for years. When I got married, it's one of the recipes she gave me. I'm still making it today and it's always a favorite at our house.

prep time 5 Min
cook time 30 Min
method Stove Top
yield 4-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar (rounded tablespoons)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 - chocolate, semi-sweet squares
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla, pure extract
  • - cool whip or half-n-half

How To Make chocolate pudding

  • Step 1
In your mixing bowl, beat one egg with 2 cups milk.
  • Step 2
Add the sugar, salt and cornstarch and beat until dissolved.
  • Step 3
Pour the milk mixture into a saucepan.
  • Step 4
Cook until the semi-sweet chocolate squares are melted.
  • Step 5
Cook over medium heat until thickened.
  • Step 6
Remove from the heat and add the teaspoon of vanilla.
  • Step 7
Pour into individual dishes and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Top each dish of pudding with a spoonful of Cool Whip or a little Half-n-Half. Note: If you decide to eat the pudding while it's still warm, the Half-n-Half makes a great addition.
