"Fake " Butter Crunch

This chocolate toffee candy was always my favorite growing up as a child and Fanny Farmer made the best. When I married my husband his mother gave me this recipe. I have no idea where it came from but it has been a family favorite for over 40 years.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    finely crished vanilla wafers
  • 1/2 c
    firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 c
    butter, melted
  • TOFFEE

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1/2 c
    firmly packed light brown sugar
  • TOPPING

  • 6 oz
    semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped nuts (i use almonds)

How to Make "Fake " Butter Crunch

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine wafer crumbs, brown sugar and melted butter thoroughly. Then press into the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2 pan to make the base
  2. Bake the base at 350*F for 8 minutes
  3. While the base is cooking, make the toffee. Combine the butter and sugar in a small sauce pan and heat over medium or medium high heat until it boils. About 1 to 2 min
  4. Pour over the baked base and retuen to the oven for another 10 min. at 350*F
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle with choclate chips. When they begin to melt take a spatula and smooth out the chocolate layer
  6. Sprinkle with nuts and cool. When cool break into bite size pieces.
