There's nothing better than homemade boiled icing for a German chocolate cake, still warm from the stove. You'll never use ready made again it just isn't the same

Ingredients

  • 1 can(s)
    evaporated milk
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 3 large
    egg yolks, reserve whites
  • 1/2 c
    butter (or margarine)
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 c
    coconut
  • 1 c
    pecans, in pieces (more to taste)

How to Make Boiled icing, for German Chocolate Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix together first 5 ingredients in pan on stovetop over medium heat until thick. Stirring constantly, careful not to scorch
  2. Remove from heat and beat by hand until thick and looses some of the gloss. Add coconut and pecans
  3. Pour almost 1/2 over first layer of cooled German Chocolate Cake. Then put next layer on and pour remaining frosting and let drip down the sides.
