aunt nona's old-fashioned chocolate cake
My Aunt Nona gave me this recipe at a "cookbook shower" before my wedding. It is very moist. I like to double the cinnamon. I will be doubling the cocoa powder next time to see if it makes a richer chocolate taste.

Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 - eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- FROSTING
- 1 stick butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 cup powdered sugar
- - chopped nuts
How To Make aunt nona's old-fashioned chocolate cake

Step 1Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a Bundt pan.

Step 2In a small saucepan, bring butter, shortening, cocoa, and water just to a boil.

Step 3Mix flour, sugar, soda and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.

Step 4Pour hot liquids over the dry ingredients and mix well.

Step 5Add buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla and mix well.

Step 6Bake for 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Step 7Frosting: Melt butter in a medium saucepan.

Step 8Add cocoa and milk and bring to a boil.

Step 9Remove from heat and pour into a clean mixing bowl.

Step 10Add powdered sugar to desired thickness.

Step 11Sprinkle cake with chopped nuts while frosting is warm.
