whopper cookie bars

This recipe originates with Bon Appetit Magazine. I changed the type/size of pan and increased the chocolate chips and malt balls amounts. I put the malt balls in a Ziploc bag and bang on them with a rolling pin to break them up.

Ingredients

  • MIX TOGETHER
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup malted milk powder (ovaltine works too)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • AFTER BAKING:
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (or more)
  • 1 cup whoppers (coarsely chopped)

How To Make whopper cookie bars

  • Step 1
Using the paddle on your mixer or pastry blender on your food processer, mix the first five ingredients together until they form a dough.
  • Step 2
Press into a rectangle Pyrex dish or even a 9x13 pan that has been sprayed with Pam.
  • Step 3
Bake crust at 325 degrees for 40 minutes until evenly browned.
  • Step 4
Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the crust, let them get melty and then use the back of a spoon to spread them around until you have an even melted chocolate layer.
  • Step 5
Sprinkle with Whoppers (or Malteasers or any old malted milk balls). Cut into bars and cool. These are really good while they are still warm and still tasty even when cooled completely.
