This recipe and photo are from TOH - you can start your Valentine's Day tradition with these pretty, cookies; and you know strawberry is a perfect complement to the chocolate glaze. You can even write a secret message for your "sweetie".

Ingredients

  • COOKIE:
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup strawberry drink mix( powder)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • GLAZE:
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon crisco solid shortening
  • FROSTING:
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry drink mix (powdered)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons milk

How To Make strawberry valentine cookies

  • Step 1
    Cookie: In a small bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and lemon juice. Combine flour, drink mix. baking powder, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Step 2
    On a lightly powdered sugar surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with a 2 1/2 to 3 inch heart cookie cutter. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake in 350^ oven for 8-10 minutes or until set and edges just begin to brown. Cool 2 minutes before removing from tray to cooling rack.
  • Step 3
    Glaze: In a microwave, melt chocolate chips and shortening in microwave safe dish at 30 second intervals; stir until smooth. Spread over cookies; let stand until set.
  • Step 4
    Frosting: In a small bowl. beat butter, drink mix and salt until blended. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. Add enough milk to desired thickness. Decorate cookies with you special messages.
