  • 2 c
    all purpose flour,unbleached
  • 1/2 c
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 2 large
  • 6 Tbsp
    butter or vegetable shortering,melted
  • 1/2 c
    reduced fat buttermilk
  • 1/2 c
    raisins or chocolate chips

How to Make Irish Scones


  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees.Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl lightly beat eggs,mix in melted butter and buttermilk.Add liquids to dry ingredients,mix to combine.Mix in raisins or chocolate chips.
  3. Divide dough into thirds.On a floured board pat each piece into a 1 inch thick circle.
  4. Cut each circle into quarters. Transfer wedges to baking sheet.Bake until golden,15 minutes.Serve warm.
