Another heirloom recipe from my Aunt Alice. Her notes say: "Everybody loves this cookie. Very yummy. Looks fancy too." Once again I've posted the original drawing that accompanies her recipe.

butter, melted
2 c
plus 4 tablespoons flour
1 scant c
confectioner's sugar
2 c
granulated sugar
1 tsp
baking powder
6 Tbsp
lemon juice
extra confectioner's sugar for garnish

How to Make Aunt Alice's Lemon Squares


  • 1Combine butter, 2 cups flour and 1 cup confectioner's sugar.
  • 2Pat into a buttered 9x13" pan and bake for 20 minutes in preheated 350°F oven.
  • 3While crust is baking, beat together eggs, granulated sugar, baking powder, remaining flour and lemon juice.
  • 4Pour over baked crust and bake 30-35 minutes more. Let cool, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar. Cut into squares.
