I know there are a lot of versions of this recipe out there. This is my family's recipe. I think it is called Texas Cake because it is big, rich and has nuts in it.

Ingredients

  • BRING TO A BOIL TOGETHER:
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • REMOVE FROM HEAT AND ADD:
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • COOL BATTER AND BEAT IN:
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • AFTER BAKING TOP WITH:
  • 1 package mini marshmallows
  • FOR THE FROSTING, BOIL TOGETHER:
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • REMOVE FROM HEAT AND STIR IN:
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

How To Make texas cake

  • Step 1
    After mixing cake ingredients together, pour into a greased jelly roll pan (11x17).
  • Step 2
    Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes before topping with the mini marshmallows and drizzling the icing over the cake while it is still hot.
