I know there are a lot of versions of this recipe out there. This is my family's recipe. I think it is called Texas Cake because it is big, rich and has nuts in it.

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

  • BRING TO A BOIL TOGETHER:

  • 2 stick
    butter
  • 1 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • REMOVE FROM HEAT AND ADD:

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • COOL BATTER AND BEAT IN:

  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • AFTER BAKING TOP WITH:

  • 1 pkg
    mini marshmallows
  • FOR THE FROSTING, BOIL TOGETHER:

  • 1 stick
    butter
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 6 Tbsp
    milk
  • REMOVE FROM HEAT AND STIR IN:

  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar
  • 1/2 c
    finely chopped walnuts

How to Make Texas Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. After mixing cake ingredients together, pour into a greased jelly roll pan (11x17).
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes before topping with the mini marshmallows and drizzling the icing over the cake while it is still hot.
