Ingredients
- 2 cups dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening (butter crisco is fine)
- 2 - eggs
- 1/3 cup cocoa
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 cup sour or sweet milk (to make fast sweet milk, add 1 tsp white vinegar to 1 c. milk)
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 teaspoon real vanilla extract

Step 1Sift all dry ingredients together. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time and beat. Add flour mixture and milk alternately, ending with flour. Beat in vanilla. Bake at 350 in two 9 inch cake pans for 25-28 minutes until springs back at touch.
