An old family favorite. Also called St. Louis Cake or St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake. My mom made this exact recipe when I was a kid.

Ingredients

  • 16 1/2 ounces box yellow cake mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • TOPPING:
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 3 3/4 cups powdered sugar or 16 oz box (reserve 2 t.)

How To Make gooey butter cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. LIGHTLY spray a 13x9 glass baking dish with nonstick. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    In a bowl, blend together the dry cake mix, eggs, and melted butter. Pour into prepared dish. Set aside.
  • Step 3
    In a separate bowl, combine powdered sugar, eggs, and cream cheese until smooth. Pour over cake mix in baking dish. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 4
    Allow to cool. Sprinkle with reserved powdered sugar.
