My family's favorite frosting. Handed down from my grandmother, my girls always ask that I make extra for them. An absolute MUST on our family mayonnaise cake!

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How To Make creamed (whipped) frosting

  • Step 1
    Mix flour and milk until no lumps remain. Cook on stove at medium-low stirring constantly, when it begins thickening turn stove to low and keep stirring until quite thick. Let cool a few minutes then put in refrigerator until cold.
  • Step 2
    Place butter, shortening, sugar, vanilla and cold flour mixture in a bowl and beat until creamy and you taste no grains of sugar. (I use my kitchenaid stand mixer, much easier)
  • Step 3
    This is the most delicious frosting, an absolute must on our family mayonnaise cake!
