caramel frosting
We love this frosting. It's been through 5 generations in our family. If I make this frosting when "certain" people are around, I have to guard the frosting or it disappears spoonful by spoonful.

Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
How To Make caramel frosting

Step 1Melt butter in pan on top of stove over medium low heat.

Step 2Add brown sugar and milk.

Step 3Boil over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring all the time.

Step 4Remove, cool (just to luke warm and if it gets to thick you can place it back on the stove for a few minutes). I set the pan in a larger pan of cold water, stirring every 5 minutes, to cool it faster if I am in a hurry.

Step 5Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Beat well with hand mixer and frost cake.

Step 6Will frost a 9x13-inch cake.

Step 7If you want a thicker frosting then double this recipe if you are making a layer cake.

Step 8This is the icing we use on the Autumn Surprise cake, but is good on about any cake you can think of.
