Ingredients

2/3 c
sugar
1/3 c
cocoa powder
1/8 tsp
baking powder
1 c
2% milk
4 large
eggs
1 tsp
vanilla
4
1" thick slices challah bread
1/4 c
unsalted butter
1-1/2 c
sliced ripe bananas or strawberries
powdered sugar and syrup as desired

How to Make Chocolaty french toast w/ fruit

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place the bread in single layer in a 9" x 13' baking dish. In bowl, combine sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder. Pour in 1/2 the milk. Whisk until mix is lump free.
  • 2Add remaining milk, eggs and vanilla. whisk until blended. Pour cocoa mix over bread. Turn bread over to other side. Pierce each slice of bread w/ a fork all over the slices to absorb mix. Turn over after 10 mins. Let sit 10 more mins.
  • 3Melt 2 tbsp butter in lg skillet over medium heat. Using a spatula, carefully transfer bread, one at a time to the skillet. Cok about 4 mins or until bottom looks browned. Flip bread over and cook until center is slightly puffed. Transfer french toast to lg plate. Sprinkle w/ powdered sugar. Garnish w/ fruit and serve w/ sryup.
