Throw away those Instant Grits!!! I'm the original northerner that had never heard of grits until I lived in Charleston, SC for 13 yrs. Like everyone else I started out eating them like Cream of Wheat, with butter and sugar. Then I developed this recipe. It is for the people who don't like grits or have never tried grits, this will make a grits lover out of you!

yield 5 (or 1 Cup every morning for breakfast. Heats in microwave perfectly)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone ground grits (i use carolina plantation stone ground grits)
  • 5 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 8 tablespoons butter or margarine (i prefer butter)
  • 1 cup heavy cream or 1/2 & 1/2 if you prefer (heavy cream makes them really creamy

How To Make grits my way

  • Step 1
    Bring 5 cups of water, 2 t. salt, and 8 T. Butter to a rolling boil.
  • Step 2
    Add 1 C. Stone Ground Grits, stir while adding to keep from forming lumps.
  • Step 3
    Reduce Heat to a simmer.
  • Step 4
    Set timer for 1 hr and give a stir about every 15 min.
  • Step 5
    After 1 hr. add the 1 C Heavy Cream and stir until combined. Enjoy!!! Sometimes I add another 2-4 T of butter and sprinkle with pepper.
