Ingredients

  • 2 c
    crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp
    butter or margarine
  • 3 c
    scalded milk
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 3 tsp
    minute tapioca

How to Make Tomatoes On Toast

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook tomatoes, butter , salt, pepper and tapioca in a saucepan stirring constantly ,until tapioca is transparent. Heat milk to just scalding point, add tomato mixture slowly to prevent curdling and bring slowly to boiling point- BUT DO NOT boil. Serve over butter garlic toast or savory bread.
  2. I personally like to eat it in a bowl with seasoned buttered croûton's and crumbled bacon on top.
