This was my inaugural use of a bread machine. I hope you enjoy my first attempt. I do love the rich color of Blood Orange. I feel like it has almost a floral taste to it. The molasses and fig make for a rich heartiness. And, the anise seeds leave a pleasant essence. I am planning an Olive Parmesan Rosemary Loaf next.

Ingredients

  • WET INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, virgin
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • - juice from 1 blood orange, pulp included
  • 1 tablespoon dark molasses
  • DRY INGREDIENTS
  • 2 tablespoons blood orange zest
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons anise seeds
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon clove, ground
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • LEAVENER
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • SOLID ADDITIVES
  • 3/4 cup dried figs, put through a grinder

How To Make fig-bloodorange-aniseseed bread for bread machine

  • Step 1
    In a greased bread machine pan, put liquid, dry ingredients, then leavener in that stratified order.
  • Step 2
    Program bread machine to Basic Bake with Light Crust Setting.
  • Step 3
    Then soak figs in tepid water. When bread machine prompts with the beeps, strain and add to mix. You may also need to scrape down sides with a rubber spatula during the beeps.
  • Step 4
    Allow to bake and enjoy.
