irish soda bread
This was the first bread recipe I ever baked, when I was a young teenager. It was easy, didn't need to sit and rise and it was yummy!

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1-1 1/2 cups buttermilk
How To Make irish soda bread

Step 1In a large bowl, cut butter into flour until consistency of cornmeal. Stir in soda and salt.

Step 2Beating constantly with large spoon or mixer, add enough buttermilk to form a firm ball.

Step 3Knead dough in bowl for several minutes, then form a ball.

Step 4On greased, lightly floured cookie sheet, with floured hands flatten dough to a circle 1 1/2" high. With floured knife, cut a cross 1/2" deep in center.

Step 5Bake in 425 degree oven 35 - 45 minutes or until top is golden brown and loaf sounds hollow when lightly tapped. Cool on rack.
