These breadsticks are an incredible addition to any dish, especially pastas and salads. Feel free to swap out the herbs to match the main dish that you're serving.

Ingredients

  • FOR BREADSTICKS
  • 1 package yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 4 1/4 cups a.p. flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon table salt
  • 1 1/2 cups + 2 tbsp warm water (divided)
  • - kosher salt
  • GARLIC / HERB BUTTER
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons thyme, dried
  • 2 tablespoons sweet basil, dried

How To Make garlic and herb breadsticks

  • Step 1
    For the Breadsticks; Place 1/4 C warm water (95 - 110 F.) in mixer bowl. Sprinkle yeast over water and set aside until foamy (about 5 mins).
  • Step 2
    Add flour, butter, sugar, salt, and 1 1/4 C + 2 Tbsp warm water. Using dough hooks, mix until slightly sticky dough forms. (approx. 5 mins).
  • Step 3
    Place dough on floured surface and knead until very smooth and soft. Roll into a 2-foot long log. Divide into 16 pieces (half each piece 4 times). Knead each piece slightly and roll into a 7" long breadsticks.
  • Step 4
    Arrange 2" apart on parchment lined baking sheets. Cover and allow to raise in a warm area until double in size (about 45 mins). Preheat oven to 400 F.
  • Step 5
    Prepare Garlic/Herb butter: Cut cold butter into 1/2 inch cubes and place in a microwave-safe bowl. Finley mince and paste Garlic cloves. Add pasted garlic, thyme, and basil to the butter. Cover loosely and microwave 30 - 45 seconds, or until butter is melted. Set aside.
  • Step 6
    After breadsticks have risen, brush with butter mixture and bake until golden (about 15 mins). Remove from oven, brush again with butter mixture, and sprinkle lightly with Kosher Salt. Move to cooling racks and allow to cool completely.
