This is my favourite recipe from the Canadian Mennonite Cookbook and has won many times in local fairs. I usually make at least one batch each week for sandwiches.

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup water, warm
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast (or package)
- 5 cups water, warm
- 3/4 cup oil
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 12 cups unbleached white flour
How To Make white bread

Step 1Grease loaf pans.

Step 2Dissolve 1 tsp sugar in lukewarm water. Sprinkle yeast over liquid and let rise in warm place for about 10 minutes.

Step 3Add remaining ingredients except flour.

Step 4Gradually add 1 cup of flour at a time and beat until smooth. Kneed enough flour into mixture to form a stiff smooth elastic dough.

Step 5Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise in warm place until double in bulk (1 hour). Punch down and let rise again till double in bulk (1 hour).

Step 6Punch down again and shape into loaves. Place in greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise till double in bulk (1 hour).

Step 7Bake @ 350ºF for 30 min. Bake till golden brown and sounding hollow when tapped with finger.

Step 8Makes five 8x4x3 inch loaf pans * alternative: Replace 3 - 4 cups of the all purpose white flour with whole wheat flour or Robin Hood Nutri Blend flour.
