I make these with whatever fresh fruit is in season. Blueberries are a favorite. Also may use raisins, chopped dates, or dried chopped apricots.

Ingredients For scones

  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    crisco
  • 1/4 c
    butter or marg.
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 2/3 c
    sour milk/buttermilk
  • 1 c
    fruit

How To Make scones

    Cut shortening into dry ingredients.

    Add eggs and sour milk to make a soft dough. Stir in fruit.

    If using a 9x9 pan grease that and put dough in and bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

    For individual scones turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and pat into a 9 inch circle about an inch or so thick, then cut with a sharp knife into 12 pie shaped pieces. Place on greased sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes.
