(1 RATING)
I have worked on this recipe for a while now and I think I have perfected it. It is so good...way better than whole wheat.

Ingredients
- 3 cups warm water
- 4 teaspoons yeast
- 1/2 cup honey, molasses, brown sugar or white sugar - your choice
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- MIX WELL AND LET STAND FOR 5 MINUTES - THEN ADD:
- 4 - 5 cups rye flour
- 2 cups white flour
- STIR ALL INGREDIENTS WELL. USE ENOUGH FLOUR TO MAKE A STICKY DOUGH. YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE TO KNEAD THE DOUGH. COVER AND LET STAND UNTIL DOUBLE. I LET IT STAND SEVERAL HOURS, UNTIL IN ALMOST COLLAPSES ON ITSELF. SHAPE INTO LOAVES AND LET RISE.
How To Make plain old rye bread
-
Step 1BAKE AT 350 DEGREES FOR 35-45 MINUTES. I USE A MEAT THERMOMETER AND COOK IT UNTIL IT REACHES 180-190 DEGREES
-
Step 2I sometimes add about a 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats that I have blended into flour and 1 cup of old fashioned oats, when I am adding the rye flour. Then I only use 4 cups of rye flour
