Ingredients For plain old rye bread

  • 3 c
    warm water
  • 4 tsp
    yeast
  • 1/2 c
honey, molasses, brown sugar or white sugar - your choice
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • MIX WELL AND LET STAND FOR 5 MINUTES - THEN ADD:
  • 4 - 5 c

  • STIR ALL INGREDIENTS WELL. USE ENOUGH FLOUR TO MAKE A STICKY DOUGH. YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE TO KNEAD THE DOUGH. COVER AND LET STAND UNTIL DOUBLE. I LET IT STAND SEVERAL HOURS, UNTIL IN ALMOST COLLAPSES ON ITSELF. SHAPE INTO LOAVES AND LET RISE.
