my healthier grilled cheese & ham sandwich

Had lunch with my neighbor again and guess what? This sandwich has always been a favorite of mine, but with trying to loose weight (THIS) ham & cheese will not put the pounds on your tighs as the regular good gooey fat-laden favorite we all love would. Her recipe stated that a regular grilled cheese and ham sandwish has 680 calories with 30 grams of fat. Well, guys and gals this beauty only has 337 calories and 10 grams of fat and if you omit the shredded cheese you will save another 60 more calories. It's a keep for me for sure.

  • Step 2
Heat a large nonstick saute pan over medium low heat or two medium nonstick pans.
  • Step 3
    Meanwhile, assemble the sandwiches.
  • Step 4
Lay 4 slices of bread on a work service.
  • Step 5
Divide the shredded cheddar among the 4 slices of bread.
  • Step 6
Lay 2 slices of ham on top of cheese and place cheese slices on top of the ham.
  • Step 7
Spread the mustard on each of the remaining 4 slices of bread and place mustard side down on top of the cheese.
  • Step 8
Away from the stove spray your pan with cooking spray.
  • Step 9
Spray both sides of the sandwiches with the cooking spray and place 2 sandwiches in hot pan.
  • Step 10
Brown each side of the sandwiches and transfer the sandwiches to a baking sheet.
  • Step 11
Place in pre-heated oven and bake until they are warmed through, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 12
Remove from oven and cut each sandwich in half and serve.
  • Step 13
NOTE: If you would rather not finish in your oven you can finish heating them in the pan on top of your stove. Just turn down the heat, so not to burn until the ham is warmed.
