kid friendly whole wheat bread
(1 RATING)
I got this recipe from some Amish friends and adapted it a bit. My kids will get into the bread box like they're getting into the cookie jar!

Ingredients
- 4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 4 cups warm water
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 6 cups whole wheat flour
- 4 cups all-purpose unbleached white flour
- 6 teaspoons vital wheat gluten
How To Make kid friendly whole wheat bread
-
Step 1Dissolve yeast into warm water. (I like to put the warm water in a large 4 cup glass measuring cup.)
-
Step 2Combine butter, molasses, honey and salt. Mix well. Add yeast/water mixture.
-
Step 3Mix flour and vital wheat gluten. I just stir them together with a fork. Add flour/gluten mixture gradually. Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth. Place in greased bowl and let rise until double. (If you don't have a warm oven go ahead and place it in a sunbeam on your counter.) You can cover this with plastic wrap sprayed with non-stick spray or non-stick foil.
-
Step 4Punch down. Let dough rest a few minutes. Shape into 4 loaves. Place in greased bread pans. Let rise about 2 hour. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes.
-
Step 5Gently remove loaves from pans and let cool on wire or wood racks. Butter tops or drizzle with honey and then butter tops.
