This tastes just like English muffins.

I cut this out of our local news paper back in 2002.

Ingredients

5 1/2 to 6 c
*** flour
2 pkg
"active" dry yeast
1 Tbsp
sugar
2 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
baking soda
2 c
milk
1/2 c
water
cornmeal

How to Make ENGLISH MUFFIN LOAF BREAD

Step-by-Step

  • 1*** "MEASURE BY SPOONING FLOUR LIGHTLY INTO CUP".

    Preheat oven: 400 degrees.

    Grease & sprinkle with cornmeal - 2 loaf pans.
  • 2In large bowl combine - 3 cups flour, yeast sugar, salt, & baking soda.

    Heat liquids on stove until very warm (120-130 degrees).

    Add to dry mixture; beat well.
  • 3Stir in remaining flour to make a stiff batter.

    Spoon into prepared pans & sprinkle tops with cornmeal.
  • 4COVER; LET RISE IN A WARM PLACE FOR 45 MINUTES.
  • 5Bake for 25 minutes... remove from pans immediately & cool.
