This tastes just like English muffins. I cut this out of our local news paper back in 2002. *** Makes 2 loaves

Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 cups *** flour
  • 2 packages "active" dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • - cornmeal

How To Make english muffin loaf bread

  • Step 1
    *** "MEASURE BY SPOONING FLOUR LIGHTLY INTO CUP". Preheat oven: 400 degrees. Grease & sprinkle with cornmeal - 2 loaf pans.
  • Step 2
    In large bowl combine - 3 cups flour, yeast sugar, salt, & baking soda. Heat liquids on stove until very warm (120-130 degrees). Add to dry mixture; beat well.
  • Step 3
    Stir in remaining flour to make a stiff batter. Spoon into prepared pans & sprinkle tops with cornmeal.
  • Step 4
    COVER; LET RISE IN A WARM PLACE FOR 45 MINUTES.
  • Step 5
    Bake for 25 minutes... remove from pans immediately & cool.
