I am making food Gifts this year, for our Christmas dinner, I decided to make Raisin Bread in tin Cans, I had not done this in years. This is an old Forgotten technique, used when I was a child. Photo coming

yield Makes 6 (15 oz cans)

Ingredients

  • RAISIN BREAD IN A TIN CAN
  • 1 pound raisins
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons shortening ( heaping)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (optional) chopped nuts

How To Make raisin bread gifts by freda

  • Step 1
    6 Empty (15oz) Cans, Labels removed and washed thoroughly. Oil the 6 cans well set aside.
  • Step 2
    Mix raisins, Boiling water, Baking soda & Shortening together. Let sit over night in the refer.
  • Step 3
    Next morning, Add remaining Ingredients to Refrigerated Mixture; & Mix Well. Fill Cans 2/3 full with the Dough. Divide batter evenly.
  • Step 4
    Bake @ 350 for 1 Hr. Cool 10 min. Invert on Cooling rack. Remove from can, or turn upside down & cut bottom out of can and Push thru. Wrap in foil. As Serving: Cut in Rounds, serve warm with Butter Cream cheese or Jelly & peanut-butter. As gift: Leave in can, or Wrap in foil. Wrap in New tea Towel, tie with Ribbon add tag with recipe.
