This recipe was passed down from Ann Jones McCarley of Lefors, Texas to her granddaughter Pam Parker Barrett of Amarillo, Texas through Pam's mother, Peggy McCarley Parker of Amarillo.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 packages yeast dissolved in half cup water
  • 1 - egg
  • 3 cups flour

How To Make granny mccarley's angel rolls

  • Step 1
    In a large mixing bowl, add salt, sugar and shortening to hot milk and let stand until lukewarm.
  • Step 2
    Add yeast, egg and flour and beat well. Allow to stand 20 minutes and then knead lightly 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Cover the bowl with a damp dishcloth and let rise.
  • Step 4
    Roll out on board and cut or form into shape with the lid of a Mason jar.
  • Step 5
    Put rolls onto greased pan 1 inch apart and let rise 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Cook in hot oven until brown. (about 8-10 minutes)
