Anyone who knows me knows that I don't do yeast. So any time a recipe for bread, biscuits, rolls, etc., comes along that does not require yeast, I'm all over it! This one is for me! Recipe & photo: Taste of Home 02-27-15

yield Makes 10 biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2-1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2-1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed (1 stick)
  • 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons minced fresh chives
  • 1 cup buttermilk

How To Make flaky cheddar-chive biscuits

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, whisk the first five ingredients together. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; stir in cheese and chives.
  • Step 2
Add buttermilk; stir just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead gently 8-10 times.
  • Step 3
Pat or roll dough to 3/4-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter or the open end of a small glass. Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 425º oven for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with melted butter.
