Good with whipped topping too. I bet this cake is great with vanilla ice cream!! hummmmm, I just might have to have another piece tonight...you know, just to test out the ice cream...... :)
I just LOVE this topping! toasty brown. Next time, I'll not toast it as brown, just to see how it tastes. That's what is nice about it...broil it as long as you want it.
This is Jolayne's Oatmeal Cake that I tweeked a little bit; added chocolate chips and sliced walnuts, substituted 1/4 cup of the flour for 1/4 cup finely ground pecans and did not make the frosting, was rich and perfect like it was! Thanks Jolayn.
I made this cake a little differently. It is wonderful. I substituted the 1/4 cup flour with 1/4 cup finely ground pecans, added 1/2 cup each of semi-sweet chocolate chips and sliced walnuts and left off the topping. With all the chocolate and nuts it didn't need it. It tasted like a different kind of brownie, yum. I'll definitely make this over and over again.
