"Mom's Gooey Butter Cake"...made it for our family Sunday dinner dessert, it was a hit with everyone! Thank you Shelly for sharing your mom's wonderful yummy recipe! My hubby loved it!
I have made this recipe for years. In my family it was called St. Louis Lemon Buttery Gooey Cake. It always is thicker on the sides since you put it in a pan with the cake mix and melted butter and egg. Then you press it with your hands and pour the cheese cake, powdered sugar, and cream cheese on the top of that. My family never had any problem scarfing it down, thick sides and all.
No need to apologize, Michele. Anyone can ask questions. I hope my answer did not come across to you the wrong way. I wish I knew why it turned out that way. The posted picture looked so good to me. That's why I made this recipe; but mine didn't look that good. HMMMMM YEP, I sure wish I knew why mine didn't turn out looking like the main photo. 10/08/12
Michele Zetusky,
Since you posted this on the photo of my results from making this recipe, I'll try to answer your questions. My picture as you can see shows that my crust was very thick. It did not look nice like the main picture for this recipe.
I used the cake mix dry just like the directions say to do it. I did NOT make it into a cake first like on the box.
Hope that answers your questions. 10/07/12
My crust didnt come out like this at all - mine was thin like the original pic - maybe it was just a little thicker on the sides? Did you make the cake mix as on the cake box or just add the mix as on the directions?
