On February 19, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of more than 3 million pounds of frozen not ready-to-eat (NRTE) chicken fried rice products due to possible foreign matter contamination.
Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc issued the recall for its Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken With Japanese-Style Fried Rice and Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice because the products may contain glass.
At this time, there are no reports of injury. The problem was discovered after Ajinomoto Foods received four consumer complaints regarding glass found in the product and notified the FSIS.
The Trader Joe’s item was shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide in the U.S. The Ajinomoto product was only exported to Canada.
How to Identify Recalled Frozen Fried Rice
The products were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025. Affected products include:
- 20-oz. (1 lb. 4 oz.) plastic bag packages containing frozen “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with Stir Fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs” with Best By dates 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026.
- 1.53-kg. cardboard packages containing 6 bags of frozen “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken With Japanese-Style Fried Rice” with Best Before/Meilleur Avant dates 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12.

What To Do If You Have the Recalled Fried Rice
If you have the recalled product, do not consume it. Throw the frozen fried rice away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Contact your healthcare provider if you’ve consumed this product and are concerned about injury.
