How to Make Fry Sauce

Homemade french fry sauce

Fry sauce has been around since the 1940s. It’s been a popular condiment in the western United States for a long time but in recent years it’s becoming popular across the country. So what is fry sauce and what is all the commotion about?

This simple sauce, that’s a mix of mayo and ketchup, finds its roots in Salt Lake City, Utah. It all started with Don Carlos Edwards, a food cart owner, opened Don Carlos’ BBQ and then the Arctic Circle chain. He created a signature sauce that became extremely popular and was part of the reason why people visited his restaurants. As it gained in popularity, it soon became a staple at restaurants in Utah and throughout the northwest.

Fry sauce has many variations. It can be as simple as mixing mayonnaise and ketchup or seasonings can be added. Everyone seems to have their special variation and swear their version is the best.
