How to Make Whipped Cream

how to make whipped cream

How many times have you gone to make whipped cream at home and forgotten how much sugar to add? Or, have you made whipped cream, went to grab it from the fridge only to find it completely deflated? Not to worry, we have your back. We’re going to walk you through how to make the fluffiest whipped cream. After one dollop, you’ll never buy the pre-made stuff again.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons White Chocolate Instant Jell-O Pudding (optional stabilizer)

Step 1.

Place a mixing bowl and wire whisk attachment (or beaters if using a hand mixer) in the freezer to chill for about 20 minutes. The mixing bowl and attachment should be as cold as possible.

Step 2.

Take bowl and attachment out of the freezer. Add heavy whipping cream. Turn mixer on high and beat for 2-3 minutes until soft peaks form.

Step 3.

Once soft peaks form, add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. If not using the whipped cream right away, add the instant Jell-O pudding mix to stabilize the whipped cream now.

Step 4.

Continue to mix until stiff peaks form. Be sure not to over mix. If overbeaten, the whipped cream will turn to butter.

Step 5.

Dollop onto your favorite dessert.

Test Kitchen Tip

  • 1 cup of heavy cream makes 2 1/2 cups once mixed. You can double or triple the recipe as needed.
  • Whipped cream does not do well when made too far in advance. It becomes liquidy and loses its fluff. If not using the whipped cream right away, it’s best to add a stabilizer to the cream.
  • There’s a trick we have to stabilize whipped cream – White Chocolate Instant Jell-O Pudding! It has a mild flavor and keeps the whipped cream white. If you’re using the whipped cream right away, skip this step.
  • You can substitute the white chocolate pudding with another flavor that will pair with your dessert. Just note, depending on the powder color it may change the color of the whipped cream.
  • Vanilla extract is a neutral flavor that works well in whipped cream. But, substitute any other extract as needed.
