This is one of my Grandma's recipes I remember her making these for party's and Christmas. Grandma called these cherry wink's I call them cherry whispers that reminded me of Grandma when she talked she never had a bad day or a cross word.

Ingredients

1/3 c
shortning
1/2 c
sugar
1 tsp
greated lemon peel
1 tsp
vanilla
1
egg
2 Tbsp
milk
1 c
all purpose flour
candied cherries
1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/4 tsp
baking soda
1/2 c
raisins
1/2 c
walnuts or pecans
1 1/2 c
wheat flakes, crushed

Step-By-Step

1Cream together first 4 ingredients. Add milk and egg; beat thoroughly.

2Sift dry ingredients together add to creamed mixture mixing well

3Stir in raisins and nuts..Drop by teaspoons onto crushed bran flakes toss lightly to coat.

4Place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Top with a candied cherry half.

5Bake at400 degrees about 12 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from pan. Makes 3 dozen
