The first time I made this we did it without meat, the second time I used pork loin, the next time I used chicken.... chicken is my favorite so far (I've done it that way several times) but I think next I'm going to use ham hocks and bacon.

Slow Cooker Crock Pot


6 medium
potatoes, cut up
1 c
onion, chopped
3 large
carrots, sliced
4 c
broth, whichever type goes with your choice of meat, if not using meat use chicken broth
1/2 tsp
dried basil
1 tsp
parsley flakes
1 tsp
1/2 tsp
black pepper
2 stalk(s)
celery, thinly sliced
1/4 c
flour (or 3 tbsp cornstarch)
1/2 lb
meat of choice (optional)
1 1/4 c

How to Make Potato Stew


  • 1Combine vegetables, spices and broth in slow cooker.
  • 2If using meat, cut into desired sized pieces and add to slow cooker. If using bacon do not do this.
  • 3In separate bowl, combine milk and flour/cornstarch, then add to slow cooker.
  • 4Let cook on medium or high setting four about 4 1/2 to 5 hours.
  • 5If using bacon, cook bacon in skillet. Break/cut into pieces and add to stew after stew has cooked for at least 4 hours.
  • 6Serve with crackers or biscuits.
