split pea soup
This is my Mom's recipe. It's thick and tastes yummy! She made the ham bone in the pressure cooker for 10 to 15 mins. but I just cook it in a separate pot and then add the split peas when the ham bone is cooked.

- 5 - peeled and diced potato's
- 2 cups diced carrots
- 1 stalk celery, diced
- 1 - ham bone with some ham on it.
How To Make split pea soup
-
Step 1In soup pot, cook Ham bone in water till boils and ham pieces fall into water. Take bone out of water and dice up any ham left on the bone and put back in the water. Discard bone.
-
Step 2Make sure you don't have to much water in pot for green split peas or your soup will get runny. Go by directions on package. Put the green split peas in the water in your soup pot and bring to a boil. Then reduce and simmer for about 45 min. or till split peas have split and you can mix the soup. Make sure to mix often or the peas will burn to the bottom of the pot.
-
Step 3Cook onions, carrots, celery in fry pan till tender. Boil potato's till tender and still in diced form. Mix onion, celery, carrots and potato's in split pea soup when it is simmering. Enjoy!
