This soup has been in my family for three generations and is a staple food with us. It was obtained from a family friend originally and each generation added their own touches. This is my version.

Stove Top


  • 1 lb
    hamburger, ground chuck preferably
  • 8 oz
    mixed vegetables (with lima beans)frozen
  • 16 oz
    light kidney beans
  • 16 oz
    crushed tomatoes
  • 16 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 2
    chicken bouillon, cubes
  • 2 c
  • 1/2 tsp
    basil, dried
  • 1/2 tsp
    thyme, dried
  • 1/4 tsp
    rosemary, dried
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 2 or 3 medium
    potatoes, cubed

How to Make Hamburger soup


  1. Brown hamburger in stock pot until no longer pink. Drain and rinse.
  2. Drain and rinse kidney beans and add to pot.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and bring to boil for 1 minute.
  4. Cover and reduce heat to medium low. Cook until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
