Ingredients
- 1 pound yellow or green peas
- 2 quarts water
- 1 small ham hock, smoked
- 1 slice large ham steak i use cooks ham and cut in small cubes
- 1 small sweet onion chopped
- 2 - cloves garlic,minced
- 1 - bay leaf
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or marjoram
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1/3 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
How To Make split pea &carrot and ham soup

Step 1Rinse the dried peas and drain .Put in a large pot with chopped onion, minced garlic, 1 bay leaf ,1/2 tsp dried thyme or marjoram, ham hock and uncooked chopped ham Cover with water and bring to boil.

Step 2Simmer for 1 -1/2 hours Take ham hock and bay leaf out .take meat off ham hock .Put meat and and carrots and celery and salt & pepper in pot and cook till vegetables are tender add more water if needed.
