  • 1 lb
    yellow or green peas
  • 2 qt
  • 1 small
    ham hock, smoked
  • 1 slice
    large ham steak i use cooks ham and cut in small cubes
  • 1 small
    sweet onion chopped
  • 2
    cloves garlic,minced
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp
    dried thyme or marjoram
  • 1 c
    chopped carrots
  • 1/3 c
    chopped celery
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp

How to Make Split Pea &carrot and Ham Soup


  1. Rinse the dried peas and drain .Put in a large pot with chopped onion, minced garlic, 1 bay leaf ,1/2 tsp dried thyme or marjoram, ham hock and uncooked chopped ham Cover with water and bring to boil.
  2. Simmer for 1 -1/2 hours Take ham hock and bay leaf out .take meat off ham hock .Put meat and and carrots and celery and salt & pepper in pot and cook till vegetables are tender add more water if needed.
