This is really good on a cold day. It is not a thick soup but a soothing soup.

Ingredients

  • 2 qt
    tomato juice
  • 1/2 stick
    unsalted butter or margine
  • 4 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Mom's Homemade Tomato soup

Step-by-Step

  1. melt your butter in a 5 quart pan on medium heat.
  2. Add your 2 quarts of tomato juice to melted butter. I use homemade tomato juice.
  3. Then add your milk one cup at a time.
  4. When the soup has heated to almost a boil take off of stove and slowly add your baking soda. Add it 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Taste and if needed add your other 1/2 teaspoon. Add your salt and pepper to your liking. Serve with saltine crackers.
