mom's homemade tomato soup

This is really good on a cold day. It is not a thick soup but a soothing soup.

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts tomato juice
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter or margine
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make mom's homemade tomato soup

  • Step 1
    melt your butter in a 5 quart pan on medium heat.
  • Step 2
    Add your 2 quarts of tomato juice to melted butter. I use homemade tomato juice.
  • Step 3
    Then add your milk one cup at a time.
  • Step 4
    When the soup has heated to almost a boil take off of stove and slowly add your baking soda. Add it 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Taste and if needed add your other 1/2 teaspoon. Add your salt and pepper to your liking. Serve with saltine crackers.
