This is really good on a cold day. It is not a thick soup but a soothing soup.

2 qt
tomato juice
1/2 stick
unsalted butter or margine
4 c
1 tsp
baking soda
salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Mom's Homemade Tomato soup


  • 1melt your butter in a 5 quart pan on medium heat.
  • 2Add your 2 quarts of tomato juice to melted butter. I use homemade tomato juice.
  • 3Then add your milk one cup at a time.
  • 4When the soup has heated to almost a boil take off of stove and slowly add your baking soda. Add it 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Taste and if needed add your other 1/2 teaspoon. Add your salt and pepper to your liking. Serve with saltine crackers.
