Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 5-1/3 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 4 slices thick french bread, lightly toasted
  • 1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese

How To Make easy french onion soup

  • Step 1
    In lg pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions. Cook, stirring occasionally 25 mins, or until onions are golden.
  • Step 2
    Add broth, apple cider and pepper to pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Stir in parmesan cheese. Cook until cheese is melted.
  • Step 3
    Heat broiler. Place bread on a baking sheet. Sprinkle bread evenly w/ swiss cheese. Broil 5" from heat for 5 mins, or until cheese is melted. Ladle soup into bowls, top each bowl w/ a slice of cheesy bread.
