  • 3 large
    sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 5-1/3 c
    low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 c
    apple cider
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 4 slice
    thick french bread, lightly toasted
  • 1/2 c
    shredded swiss cheese

How to Make Easy french onion soup


  1. In lg pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions. Cook, stirring occasionally 25 mins, or until onions are golden.
  2. Add broth, apple cider and pepper to pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Stir in parmesan cheese. Cook until cheese is melted.
  3. Heat broiler. Place bread on a baking sheet. Sprinkle bread evenly w/ swiss cheese. Broil 5" from heat for 5 mins, or until cheese is melted. Ladle soup into bowls, top each bowl w/ a slice of cheesy bread.
