daddy's oyster stew
My family enjoyed this tasty stew every Christmas Eve. It was our traditional meal before we had our family celebration. Now, when I have oyster stew, it always makes me think of those wonderful holidays spent with my family.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 quarts half & half
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick - use real, salted butter)
- 2 - dozen shucked oysters (with broth)
- - salt and pepper to taste
- dash cayenne pepper or hot sauce
How To Make daddy's oyster stew

Step 1Place half and half in a large saucepan. Heat to scalding (until little bubbles appear around edge of pan). DO NOT BRING TO BOIL!!!

Step 2Meanwhile, place the butter in a 2-quart saucepan and melt over medium high heat. Add the oysters with their broth (check oysters for pieces of shell before adding to butter). Cook gently until edges of oysters start to curl.

Step 3Add oysters and broth to scalded milk. Season with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper.

Step 4Cook over medium heat for 1-2 minutes or until heated through.
