My husband grew up in NC and his Mama fixed these beans the old fashion way. He loved them. When we got married I had never fixed them before, so I came up with a sure fire successful recipe, and he loves them as much as his Mama's. We make these the entire meal with cornbread. We crumble a slice of cornbread in our beans and enjoy. Yum, yum.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag dry beans (pintos, yellow eyes, pink beans, etc.

  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 10 small chicken bouillon cubes
  • 8 ounces chopped smoked ham (optional)

How To Make crockpot soup beans 5 ingredient

  • Step 1
Wash beans in a colander. Pick out any bad beans.
  • Step 2
Pour washed beans to crockpot. Add water, bouillon, onion and ham (if desired). Cover and cook on medium.
  • Step 3
I put my beans on in the morning and let them cook until the following evening. I know that's more than 24 hours, but the longer you cook them, the thicker the soup becomes and that's how you want them. Add a slice of cornbread and enjoy!
