The colour of a vegetable or fruit is often a good indication of its nutritive value - and the butternut squash is no exception! Its deep orange hue tells you it's packed with beta-carotene, which your baby's body converts to vitamin A (a lot of beta-carotene in baby's diet can contribute to the harmless - but startling - 'orange nose' phenomenon!

  • 1 1/4 pounds organic butternut squash, about 3 cups

How To Make butter-nut squash baby food

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cut squash into quarters; remove seeds and place cut side down in a baking pan. Pour ¼ cup water in bottom of pan. Bake squash until fork tender, about 45 minutes. Remove from oven and scoop out flesh.
  • Step 2
    Puree the squash after cooking, until you’ve reached the desired consistency. You may want to add 1 to 2 tablespoons water, breast milk or formula to thin.
