reindeer food for santa's eight pals
Every year on Christmas Eve my granddaughter, Lucy, (who is now 14) and I make a batch of food for Santa's reindeer. Her mother started this tradition when Lucy was small. My daughter-in-law passed away in April, 2011, and this is one way we keep her memory alive. Photo by: http://www.squidoo.com/reindeer-food

Ingredients
- 1 cup oatmeal, uncooked
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, shelled
- 1/4 cup colored sugar crystals
- 1 tablespoon ice cream sprinkles
- 2 tablespoons raisins (optional)
How To Make reindeer food for santa's eight pals
-
Step 1Gather any and all children (from 2 to 90) around the kitchen table. Assemble all the ingredients.
-
Step 2Either play on radio/stereo/MP3/whatever favorite Christmas carols--or better yet, sing!
-
Step 3Combine all the ingredients in a medium sized bowl; mix well. Place mixture into plastic cups or sandwich bags, one for each child.
-
Step 4Go outside (put on a coat if it is below 55 degrees; boots, if it is snowing!) and sprinkle reindeer food on the lawn where Santa's eight friends will be sure to see it.
-
Step 5This food will fill their tummies and give them extra energy to lift off again after Santa has eaten all the milk and cookies you left for him inside.
