This recipe was made by my sister in law at Christmas in 2010, and has been made many times since.

Ingredients For puppy chow

  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 c
    powdered sugar
  • 1/2 c
    peanut butter
  • 6 oz
    chocolate chips
  • 1/4 c
    margarine
  • 9 c
    chex cereal (corn and rice, 4 1/2 cups each)

How To Make puppy chow

    In large microwave safe bowl, melt margarine, chocolate chips and peanut butter. Stir occasionally until a smooth, even consistency. Remove from microwave and stir in vanilla extract. Then, 2 cups at a time, add chex cereal into chocolate mixture. Stir gently. Repeat until all chex cereal is added. Then add 1/2 of powdered sugar. Stir GENTLY. Repeat. May need to add more powdered sugar to desired sweetness or to cover all of the chex, making it powdery white. Enjoy!

    I did double the peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips. Used dark chocolate but was a little stron. Also used only a 12.8 oz box rice chex only.
