A elderly cousin use to make this with tomatoes she canned from her summer garden. It was always a favorite of mine. I use canned tomatoes from the grocery store, but it still comes out really good.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups bread, cubed
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (may adjust to 1/2 cup depending on sweetness of tomatoes)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 10 ounces can whole tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

How To Make tomato casserole

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Step 2
    Boil tomatoes, water, sugar and salt for 5 minutes. Butter casserole dish and layer bread cubes in bottom. Pour boiled mixture over bread. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes.
