stewed okra and tomatoes
This is one of my favorite side dishes. It is good with good ole southern food. I like to make it when I make chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes....fried pork chops and macaronni and cheese; you've got the idea...very comforting and old school.

Ingredients
- 1 - onion, chopped
- 3 cups sliced okra
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, do not drain
- 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
How To Make stewed okra and tomatoes

Step 1In a heavy bottom pot, heat oil

Step 2Add the onion and garlic; sauté until tender, about 3 minutes.

Step 3Add the okra and tomatoes, salt and pepper.

Step 4Simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 5Note: If needed, add water or chicken stock if the pot becomes too dry.
