A young man in Tanzania taught me how to make this super simple salad and dressing. The dressing adds the kick!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 small
    onion, diced
  • 1 c
    hot water
  • 1/8 c
    salt
  • 1
    cucumber, peeled and sliced (short-way)
  • 2
    tomatoes, sliced vertical and halved

How to Make Tanzanian Tomato Salad

Step-by-Step

  1. Add diced onion, hot water, and salt into a deep salad bowl. Stir until salt dissolves. Using your hand, crush the onions to release the flavor into the water - takes about a minute.
  2. Add sliced cucumbers and tomatoes to onion water. Stir vegetables with your hand. Best served immediately. If it sits a little while, be sure to stir again before serving.
